Poka-Yoke translates to mistake-proofing. The idea is to engineer manufacturing errors out of the process, ensuring proper alignment and part fitment. That can mean designing fixtures to tight tolerances or installing pins so a workpiece can be inserted only one way. Clamps hold the part across one or more directions of translation or rotation. When a worker begins aligning a part incorrectly, the fixture prevents it from fitting into place, so the error is caught and corrected before it moves downstream.
Tight-tolerance fixtures, locating pins, and clamps constrain a part so misalignment will not seat, and missing parts can be detected with integrated vision systems.
